CHICAGO | In Stile Moderno: Virtuoso Music from the Seicento and Beyond - Newberry Consort

  • First Congregational Church of Dundee 900 South 8th Street West Dundee, IL, 60118 United States (map)

The Seicento, the turn of the seventeenth century in Italy, was a time of transition for musicians. Instrumental music was on the rise, virtuosity was in vogue, and composers were exploring new ways of writing for instrumentalists and singers. The stile moderno, or “modern style,” in turn affected music throughout early modern Europe, from England to Vienna to Poland and further. The Newberry Consort presents a selection of this music for Baroque violin, soprano, sackbut, and historical keyboards by Castello, Notari, Marini, Jarzebski, and more. Join us on a journey to the weird and wonderful world of seventeenth-century Italy and beyond, where old meets new!
